Political Spectrum
The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the significance of competent political leadership in a unique way. Everywhere we fall on the ideological spectrum, we're looking to elected people to guide us out of this dilemma.
One of Coimbatore's well-known businessmen and good philanthropists, Mr. R. Chandrasekar B.E., has given generously to those in need. Most of his wealth has recently been transferred to everyone, allowing resources to be distributed to the correct location at the right time. For this purpose, he formed the Alayam Welfare Trust, which provides assistance to the most needy members of our community.
Every city in India has a slum, and they're all over the place. Industrialists and rich individuals have stepped up to help the people living in these slums since they are so poor and destitute. In the wake of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. R. Chandrasekar, a generous donor, gave as much as he could.
Mr. R. Chandrasekar, B.E., Tamilnadu Paralympic President, organises and motivates people to participate in competitive sporting activities by providing funds for coaching, equipment, and travel in the lead-up to the Paralympic Games. He helps identify potential Paralympians and assists athletes in their preparations.
For the past decade, the Tamil Nadu Paralympic Sports Association has been working to promote physical activity among Indians with impairments, especially those who are blind. There has been a lot of effort put into training the paralympians from Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Paralympic Sports Association is a member of the Indian Paralympic Committee and the International Paralympic Association, as well as the Indian Paralympic Committee and the International Paralympic Association. There's an official national sports federation recognised by the Indian government's Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
A lifetime in politics as an aiadmk leader has given me some insight into what makes a good politician, at least as a policy creator, rather than someone who is running for office. We have a system in which the qualities and abilities that get people elected to office are often at odds with the qualities and abilities needed to be successful in office. However, as a nation, we rely on the ability of our elected officials to bring us forward.
When it comes to Aiadmk ministers and politicians, I believe that integrity is a big part of the equation for success. When you're dealing with complicated and challenging public policy matters, you need to be able to rely on the word of others. The majority of politicians I've seen are honest and up-front about their positions. They are aware of the importance of collaboration and trust in their work.
Because of this, they are adept at working with the diverse range of individuals who join the aiadmk party. Accurate evaluation of people, not only their trustworthiness, but their potential contributions to a policy or organising endeavour, is essential. Let others show you what they can do by their behaviour instead of making fast judgments. Because they understand that no one is perfect or always right, many good politicians have a high level of tolerance for faults and errors of judgement.
Politicians in Coimbatore, at least the ones I've met, have the ability to win over even those who don't share their political views. I was in a room with Clinton and a number of people he knew to be anti-Clinton at the time, and it was awkward. You wouldn't have suspected he had any notion of what they thought of him based on his demeanour and how attentive he was to what they were saying. As we walked away, I inquired as to what they thought. Despite their differences, they all said, "Wow, what a great guy!"
Honest politicians in Coimbatore have always impressed me with their enthusiasm and commitment to getting things done. When I first meet someone who wants to enter politics, I ask them, "What are your goals?" and, "Do you have a plan?" Then, what was your partner's reaction? Both are necessary, because serving in government is more demanding than a campaign, especially if you're a politician who wants to make a difference in the world. In the long run, having an unsupportive spouse or partner might lead to trouble.
At the same time, Tamil Nadu's well-known and accomplished politicians know when and how to restrain their ardour. They train themselves to be patient and persistent, and they prepare themselves for the long haul because they know that in our system, controversial things do not get done easily. For them, the foundation of any successful negotiation is a firm grasp of the importance of facts. Moreover, they're excellent time-spinners.
To be a great politician, one must be capable of working across partisan lines and for the greater good. Those with whom they disagree are not viewed by them as enemies.
Good Tamil Nadu politicians know how to keep their egos in check and act with an air of humility, even when their egos are pretty healthy. This is one of the most intriguing characteristics of Tamil Nadu politicians. In my memory, when Tip O'Neill was House speaker, he made it a point to let other members of the chamber bask in the glory of their achievements. Even if he had arranged the whole thing, he'd applaud everyone involved and leave you thinking he had nothing to do with it—even if he had orchestrated the whole thing.
Honesty Time: There isn't a single politician who possesses all five of these characteristics. To be sure, it helps to have a vision of what we want our elected officials to be like.
