Amniotic fluid testing, commonly known as amniocentesis or AFT, is a prenatal procedure. It is carried out to identify prenatal infections and chromosomal abnormalities. It is also employed to establish sex. A process called amniocentesis involves taking a small amount of amniotic fluid, which contains fetal tissues, out of the sac that surrounds the developing embryo. Cells and other things that can provide proof of a fetus's health can be found in the amniotic fluid.
