Non-destructive Testing

Non Destructive Inspection involves the evaluation of existing structures without causing damage, with the intention of gaining a better understanding of key structural elements. A reliable structural condition assessment with CSI relies on rigorous observations and collecting accurate data so we can adequately describe the existing condition of the structure. Concrete Structure Investigations have award-winning expertise and the resources to provide you with accurate, independent and innovative non-destructive testing.

Concrete Scanning for Non-destructive Concrete Investigations.

Our team use a variety of tools to further investigate the void, depth, utilities and reinforcements of any concrete surface. For example, the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) can be used to accurately locate steel reinforcement. GPR is a rapid, cost-effective and 100% non-intrusive method. GPR can help inspectors and engineers verify the as-built reinforcement, identify top and bottom rebar locations (i.e. in slabs, and walls), and find the configuration of transverse reinforcement. For example, if structural engineers need to verify the spacing of the reinforcement in the potential plastic hinging zone, GPR can help verify the spacing of the stirrups. GPR can also be used to identify the amount of concrete cover over the reinforcement. Additionally, the use of a Ferroscanner Cover Meter verifies concrete cover and identifies ties in brick walls.

Drossbach Investigation

Drossbachs are a common construction system widely used in NZ. Unfortunately, they are often not installed with the required attention to detail, causing many issues throughout the structure. If Drossbachs are not fully grouted, the strength of the structure is severely compromised, endangering people’s lives.

A Drossbach Duct is used as a duct former for a variety of precast and cast – insitu concrete works including:

– Precast connectors

– Service penetrations

– Formers for starter bars

– Post-tensioning ducts
