The Messerschmitt Me 109 was designed by Willi Messerschmitt in the late 1920s. The first prototype flew for the first time on August 27th, 1935. It quickly became one of Germany's most important fighter aircraft during World War II. The BF 109A entered operational service with air forces in Spain and France on different dates between 1937 and 1939.
