Portage Lakes water lovers will have the chance to make thelakes a safer, healthier place and win $1000s in prizes at Lake Lovers United:PLX Clean Up, to be held July 18, 2021.
Organized by The WET Initiative, a non-profitthat promotes clean water and sustainability in recreational waterways, theevent invites residents to take ownership of their community by competing topick up trash and litter in the lakes.
Participants may use their own boats or rentfree kayaks and paddle boats, provided by local rental companies Killin' ItKayaks, Dusty's Landing 2, and West Reservoir Rentals.
Other event sponsors include Pick's, ColdwellBanker, the Upper Deck, and Pav's Creamery, which will provide an ice creamboat as part of the clean up.
Clean up teams will launch from specificlocations every 15 minutes from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the competitionending at 3:00 PM.
All participants will receive a trash claw andunsinkable bag to facilitate the clean up.
At the end of the event, all bags will becounted.
Thousands of dollars in prizes from localbusinesses, such as Kayaks, Paddleboards, and other cool stuff will be awardedto the winners
The Wet Initiative doesn’t just want to get thelitter off the top of the lake, they want to get to the bottom of it too.
Divers are also invited to join the Dive toThrive Competition sponsored by Lake Affect, where they will be able to take adeep dive into creating fresher water by picking up sunglasses, bottles, andother debris from the bottom of the local swim zone.
The diving winner will receive a Grand Prize ofa R.O.L.A. water filtration system for their home, plus 5 years worth of waterfilters, sponsored by LakeAffectWater.com. Special prizes will also be awardedfor the top collectors of sunglasses.
An afterparty will take place at Pick'sbeginning at 4:00 PM, featuring the Buck Naked Band and chances to win prizesfrom White Claw, including hats, koozies, sunglasses, and shirts.
