The Right Wood for Walking Sticks | Canes Galore
Traditionally walking sticks were made from wood. Using a cane stick ismore beneficial for people who are suffering from joint pain. The walking stickshould be lightweight and durable. Choosing the appropriate walking sticks for women forone’s needs and comfort is very essential. The metal walking sticks are heavierand sturdier. Their longevity is more compared to any other walking sticks& Canes.
Almost any kind of wood will work. As you carve more, you’ll learn whatyou like to carve. You’ll also become familiar with the varieties that grow inyour neck of the woods. To help you get started, though, here is a chart of thetrees I have carved and my notes about their suitability as both carvingprojects and walking sticks.
Look for a reasonably straight stick that is at least 1″ (2.5cm) indiameter. It should be slightly larger around than is comfortable to hold, soyou can carve off some of the wood and still have a stick substantial enough tosupport you while you’re walking. You want a branch with enough wood at the topto provide carving stock, but that has a slender enough shaft that it won’t behard to reduce it to a suitable diameter. Click This Link...
