The most important factor is that of your child’s safety, wellbeing and health. This is foremost and this is what you need to look at. Thereafter you are going to look at the way your child will be nurtured and cared for, what the ethics and morals of the school are, the quality of the teachers, if there is a good balance of learning the ABCs and maths combined with a good balance of art, music and drama, what the quality of sport is like and again, back to safety, health and all round general well-being.
Interview the school head and teachers
When you choose child care centres you are perfectly within your rights to set up a meeting and interview the teachers. Call the school and ask for a meeting. The school will regularly be meeting new parents and will also be hosting open days too. A meeting will be set up where you will meet with the head teacher and then the individual teachers, as well as being able to see all the classrooms, play areas, toilets, sick room, sports fields and drama centre. Take your time and ask all the questions you need to ask. You may want to take your child with you and that depends on you and your child.
When you visit a school, and it is always going to be daunting as you are sending your child here for a number of years, never rush a decision. Make sure the school has the same ethos and value that you have. Feel comfortable with your decision. And then sign up!
