It has emphasised the need of infection control measures in dentistry, alongside blood-borne viruses such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD). As a result, dental practitioners have worn gloves, masks, eye protection, and protective clothes for the past two decades, and there is a strong emphasis on standard or universal measures for all patients.
