Cerebral Somatic Oximeters
Measurements of cerebral oximetry are interpreted clinically.
Normal readings vary from 60 to 80 percent; however, in some cardiac patients, lower values of 55–60 percent are not regarded as problematic. Appropriate cerebral blood flow and oxygen content are required for adequate brain oxygenation.
The balance between cerebral oxygen delivery and usage, and thus the adequacy of cerebral perfusion, is assessed by Cerebral Somatic Oximeters. Cerebral hypoxia/ischemia is caused by a mismatch between cerebral oxygen supply and demand, and it is linked to a worsening outcome following an acute brain injury.
