With a variety of deals and special offers, people prefer flying with them. However, just like any other airline, Ethiopian Airlines also has some terms and conditions for their flights. Among the major concerns of the passengers is the baggage allowance policy

So, when flying from the UK, here’s everything you need to know about the allowed baggage and extra baggage.

Baggage allowance policy for Economy class travellers.

Economy class ticket holders of Ethiopian airlines are only allowed one piece of hand-carry with a maximum of 7 Kg weight and up to two pieces for check-in baggage with a weight of not more than 23 kg each. 

If you exceed the limit set by the airline for your carry-on baggage or checked-in baggage, excessive baggage fees would be imposed to carry them along.

However, there are some items that passengers can carry on board free of any charge. For instance, a laptop, blanket, a handbag, books, etc.

Maximum weight and dimensions.

Cabin Baggage, also known as, ‘Hand luggage’ that you can carry inside the flight cabin.

  • One piece of 7 kg weight (max) and dimensions of L55cm x W40cm x H23cm.

Checked-in baggage.

  • Up to two pieces of 23 kg weight (max) per bag and a total dimeson of L+H+W = 158cm.

Baggage allowance policy for Business class travellers.

For business class travellers, the fundamental rules remain the same. However, the baggage allowance is a little more than the economy class ticket holders. The only difference is that the business class ticket holders are allowed up to two pieces of carry-on baggage weighing 7 Kg each while the limit for checked-in baggage is also pushed to 32 kg max.

Maximum weight and dimensions.

Carry-on baggage.

  • Up to two pieces of 7 kg weight (max) per bag with a dimension not more than L55cm x W40cm x H23cm.

Checked-in baggage.

  • Up to two pieces of 32 kg (max) per bag with a total dimension of L+H+W = 158cm.

Excess baggage.

If a passenger travelling has excess baggage, the fee for overweight baggage solely depends upon the route, destination as well as type of ticket. However, for passengers travelling to/from the UK, the excess baggage fee is GBP 70 and it is for checked-in baggage only.

Exceptions.

  • If a passenger is dependent on a wheelchair, pair of crutches, or other prosthetic devices; they are allowed free of cost to be carried along. However subject to the availability of space for different flights.
  • For babies aged 8 days to 23 months, one piece of hand luggage i.e., consisting of baby’s supplies is allowed if they are travelling with an adult.
  • Carrying a basket for the baby is also allowed without any additional charges.
