WestJet Cargo and the GTA Group collaborate to grow Canada's express cargo market

WestJet Cargo and the GTA Group established a long-term relationship today that will help both companies expand and increase their domestic cargo possibilities. WestJet Cargo will collaborate with the GTA Group to boost shipping capacity beginning in 2022, employing four dedicated 737-800NG freighters operated by WestJet to provide overnight express cargo service out of WestJet's Toronto base.

"This partnership is building on proven success between WestJet Cargo and the GTA Group. WestJet Cargo will bring customers new competitive options, and together with GTA we will disrupt the industry, providing more air freight capacity to domestic cargo customers who depend on reliable and on-time performance. We are eager to see these freighters take flight as we plan ahead to best serve Canadians and their business needs," said Charles Duncan, WestJet, Executive Vice-President, Cargo and President, Swoop.

WestJet's 737-800NG narrow body aircraft is ideal for serving the overnight express freight community, providing enhanced flexibility and frequency. These freighters will give the partnership with a competitive cost advantage because they are quick to fill and fly and are among the greatest fuel economy in the cargo category. WestJet Cargo, in addition to specialised freighters, will complement the GTA Group's operation through WestJet's existing cargo business in the belly of its commercial aircraft.

"This is an exciting opportunity for our organization. We are thrilled to partner with WestJet and confident that, together, we will offer the Canadian market a new alternative shipping option to meet the demands of this rapidly growing, expanding, and demanding market,"said Mario D'Urso, chairman, GTA Group of Companies.

The GTA Group of enterprises, located in Toronto, Ontario, was founded in 2001 and provides a wide range of aviation-related services, including ground service equipment maintenance, leasing, and sales, as well as ground and cargo handling, ecommerce, and cargo sales.
