What Is Apple Pay?

Apple Pay is arguably the company’s most recent and greatest commercial success. A method of making purchases online or in-store using the NFC chip in your iPhone or Apple Watch. By using Apple Pay with either Face ID or Touch ID, we may save our bank cards digitally and make purchases as if we physically had them.

Due to smartphones and fast internet speeds, the world’s economy is slowly switching to cardless, cashless, and contactless payment methods. According to Statista, 85% of American adults own a smartphone. Out of those, 47% are iPhone users. So it’s no surprise that mobile wallets like Apple Pay and other contactless methods like Venmo, Zelle, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay are becoming more popular by the day.

If you are an iPhone user who still wants to pay for products via your smartphone at Walmart in a quick and easy way, then you are in luck! To do this, you will have to download the Walmart Pay app onto your iPhone (link to the iOS app here), signup for a free account, and connect your debit/credit card to the Walmart Pay app.

Will Walmart Ever Get Apple Pay?

According to a Walmart spokesperson, Walmart has no plans to accept Apple Pay in the future. Since Walmart Pay is built into the Walmart app you have right on your iPhone, there really is no need for Apple Pay and the associated fees.

Can You Use Apple Pay at Walmart?

No, you can’t use Apple Pay at Walmart in-store, but you can use Walmart Pay and Venmo. While Apple Pay uses NFC-based technology to process in-store payments, Walmart’s payment system uses QR-based technology to support touch-free checkout.

Walmart has its own mobile payment wallet —Walmart Pay—and wants its customers to use it instead of third-party apps. It’s also Walmart’s strategy to avoid processing fees, which can shrink its thin profit margins.

What Payment Options Does Walmart Accept?

Walmart accepts plenty of different payment options. Some of them quite handy. Here’s what you can use to pay at Walmart:

  • Cash
  • Debit cards
  • Credit cards
  • Gift cards
  • Walmart Pay
  • EBT
  • Capital One Walmart Credit Cards
  • PayPal
  • Affirm
  • Chase Pay
  • Personal checks

As you can see, there’s no shortage of payment options at Walmart. They accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as their own Walmart-issued credit cards and their Walmart Pay service.

If you need to pay off a purchase without using a credit card, you can use Affirm Installment Financing to pay off goods in 3, 6, or 12 months.

Popular payment options from Apple, Google, and Samsung are surprisingly NOT accepted at Walmart. Their POS terminals probably do have that ability, but the company chose to forego these popular payment methods.

How to Use Walmart Pay at a Cashier

You can use Walmart Pay at a cashier. Just let them know that’s how you want to pay, after any coupons have been redeemed, then open Walmart on your handset, and head into the Walmart Pay section and select your preferred payment method. You’ll then need to scan the QR code that appears on the card reader to complete the transaction. The cashier will confirm when it’s done, and then you can be on your way.

How To Use Walmart Pay on iPhone?

The Walmart Pay app works on iOS and Android devices. Therefore, you can use your iPhone to pay for purchases using Walmart Pay via the Walmart app.

First, download and install the app on your iOS or Android device. Be sure to set your PIN or touch ID that you’ll use at checkout. Set up Walmart Pay by linking your preferred debit/credit card or store gift card.

From there, choose your preferred payment method from one of the saved cards. Usually, Walmart uses your gift card value first, unless you switch it off. Again, you should use EBT or WIC balances before using other payment methods on Walmart Pay.
