The thermostatic air ventrapidly discharges air during start up (membrane or bimetal type). The steamtrap body is filled with cold condensate. The float rises and opens the valvewhen a certain water level is reached. The open valve and the open air vent areused to discharge the cold condensate. The air vent shuts when the condensatereaches saturation temperature, and the condensate is only discharged throughthe main valve orifice. Inside the trap body, the condensate forms a waterseal, preventing live steam loss at all times.
The water level withinthe trap body controls the valve's opening degree. Condensate is constantlydischarged. The temperature cools slightly as air reaches the trapand accumulates at the top of the trap body, and the air vent, which opensslightly below saturation temperature, starts to discharge the air from thetrap.
