Roxithromycin is an antibiotic that is used to treat infections such as pneumonia, tonsillitis, skin infections, and genital herpes. It works by either killing or preventing bacterial growth (bugs). Roxithromycin is ineffective against viral infections, as are all antibiotics. Roxithromycin, also known as arrow-roxithromycin, is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic that prevents bacterial growth by interfering with protein synthesis. The drug is used to treat bacterial infections like pharyngitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia, as well as urinary and soft tissue infections and otitis media.

Several reaction parameters were optimized, including potassium permanganate and reagent concentrations, oxidation time, and maximum color intensity. The method has been validated and can be used to successfully assay roxithromycin in its pharmaceutical dosage form, which is tablets.
