The main aim of teeth replacement is to restore the functionality and aesthetics of your teeth. Dental Implants are an excellent practice to regain your beautiful smile by replacing missing teeth without any visible difference. Therefore, Implant dentistry is a remarkable and revolutionary dental innovation in this modern age.

Dental Implants

The crown (the part above the gum tissue) and the root (this is suspended in the bone by the periodontal ligament) are the two essential parts of a tooth. A dental implant is a replacement for the root part of the tooth. Unlike the natural root, an implant becomes physically anchored in the jaw's bone. One or multiple crowns can be supported using the dental implant technique. It can also help a complete arch of upper or lower replacement teeth.

Our body does not reject the properties of titanium. Because of this, titanium is used to make implants. Dental implants consist of a very small titanium post (the actual dental implant), which is attached to a lifelike dental crown.

The Dental Implant Procedure

1. Diagnostic Steps

The dental surgeon carefully examines the site where the potential implant/implants are to be placed. Special radiographs to assess bone quantity and quality are necessary

2. Implant Positioning

A combination of x-rays and imaging technology is used to ensure the underlying bone allows for successful implant placement and to avoid significant structures like nerves and air sinuses. This information assists in precise implant placement.

3. Surgical Placement

Dental implant surgery is a comfortable procedure, usually carried out under local anesthesia. The implants typically take two to three months to fuse with the bone.

Types of Implant Restorations

  • Single tooth replacement

Single tooth replacement consists of one implant that supports a single crown

  • Multiple tooth Replacement

Multiple missing teeth can be restored with multiple implants supporting fixed bridges. Normally, a minimum number of four to eight implants are needed to replace an entire arch of teeth by fixed bridge work.

  • Combination of fixed and removable bridge work

Usually where implants are used to support a section of fixed bridgework to which a removable section is attached.

  • Over Dentures

Two or more implants, whether standard or mini, are placed to provide stabilization of the dentures and preserve the underlying bone.

Although most traditional complete dentures press directly on the gum and bone, causing bone loss by resorption, implant-supported over-dentures protect the bone.

  • Anchorage for Tooth Movement

Implants now provide stable anchor units, allowing quicker and more flexible tooth movement.

  • Fixed Implant-Supported Dentures

The best option when much bone loss has occurred is because denture provides more support for the lips and cheeks.

Advantages of Dental Implants

  • Dental implants do not decay and are comparatively free from causing gum diseases.
  • After inserting a dental implant, it will take several months to become solidly fused to our bone. Eventually, dental implant-supported replacement tooth/teeth will feel completely natural.
  • Once dental implants become part of your jawbone, they can provide a permanent solution to tooth loss. They should last a lifetime period.
  • Dental implants prevent bone loss by fusing and stabilizing the jaw bone.
  • Dental implants do not risk the health of adjacent natural teeth. They don't need any support from adjacent teeth.
  • Caring for dental implant teeth is the same as caring for natural teeth. We need to do brushing and flossing on a daily basis, and they are free from root canal treatment.
